A Strange Fascination

I have this strange fascination with murderers, especially serial killers.  I'm not really sure how else to say it.  I think that there are a couple of different reasons why.  First of all, I just can't understand how anyone can be so cruel to another human being.  Second, while supposedly scary movies make me laugh my head off, movies with serial killers actually scare me, because they could actually happen, to some extent.  And for some reason, watching a lot of those types of movies makes me have fewer nightmares than I do when I don't watch them.  Maybe it gets it out of my system somehow?  Thrillers are my favorite kinds of books and one of my favorite kinds of movies.  I always used to watch The First 48 on Friday nights with my mom when I was growing up.  I've watched Bones, NCIS, Monk, CSI, and countless movies with the same theme.  And I love the new show The Following.

There's not really a point to this post.  I just felt like sharing.

  1. I love movies about serial killers. There are not enough good ones though, I find.

  2. I understand. I started college with the intent of being a forensic psychologist...until I took a class or two in it and actually got to meet several sociopaths where I worked (I work in mental health). It's very interesting until you're actually one on one with someone dangerous and you realize how fragile you suddenly are. It makes you really see that shows like Criminal Minds are so far off base they might as well be fantasy. Then I decided I wanted to be a kitten psychologist. lol I still like watching shows on serial killers. If you want a good read, pick up Without Conscience by Robert Hare. It's a book we used along side our text books. You might want to go over the case of Beth. You can watch it on Youtube under Child of Rage. It deals more with a child sociopath rather than a serial killer, but if you like forensic psychology, you'll find it interesting. :)You might also like the case of the Ice Man, Richard Kuklinski. I *think* he's considered a serial killer.

    1. I'll definitely check those out. I love good reads, and Goodreads (the website). And I wouldn't want to actually meet any sociopaths.

  3. I am a newspaper reporter and I specialize in crime.

I can definitely agree about serial killers and murderers being fascinating.

Also, these next few sentences are going to make me sound like a freak: Criminals are my favorite people to interview. They are so fascinating. I love hearing about jail, and prison.

I am currently in the works of negotiating with the department of corrections to let me interview a woman who was high on meth during a orgy and she murdered one of the men she was having sex with.

Reaaal messed up, but it is really interesting to talk to these people about why (and how) they do these unimaginable things.

Every time you comment, a kitten is born, and who doesn't love kittens?
