Friday Fashion: An Outfit for Adventures

Ella from Moth de Lune sent me some cool stuff, including the feathers I made the earrings in the photo up there with.  (She's super cool and she has a great giveaway going on right now. Go follow her blog already!)  Sadly I had a earring casualty and I lost one of the owl charms off the bottom of one of the earrings I was wearing.  I have other owl charms but I don't think feathers are very charm-friendly.  Charms are too heavy for feathers.  Lesson learned.

I wore this outfit for my park, pizza, Street Fair adventure last Saturday, and it was a fun adventure.

This outfit is completely free/thrifted aside from the belt (Forever 21), and the necklaces, which I made.  Boots from Goodwill, jeans from Crossroads Trading Company, shirt and blazer from Assistance League Thrift Store, and hat from Amazon.

Where to Go Near Seattle: Evergreen State Fair

On Sunday, G took me to the Evergreen State Fair.  It was about an hour away.  It was the perfect day for it, 70 degree temperatures and slightly overcast so I didn't get a sunburn.  We looked at so many cute animals, including bunnies and chickens.  There were these one chickens who looked like they had little feather afros.  Some of them even had their eyes covered by their feather afros.  We also played a carnival game.  We both lost.  It was my first time ever playing a carnival game.  It turns out that they're a lot harder than they look : )  Then we had Philly cheesesteaks and shared an elephant ear with cinnamon sugar.  I didn't take very many pictures, but here are the ones I did take.

This was the most adorable little ball of feathers I have ever seen.

No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to look at the camera.

These two baby bunnies were sleeping with their faces together and it was soooo cute!

Unfortunately my camera refused to focus on the bunnies.
I need to figure out how to change the focus settings.

Vacation: Party Crashing

The water was really low when we were in Port Townsend so we were able to walk all the way out on this rocky strip.  (I'm sure there's a name for this type of formation but can't think of what it is.)  There were a bunch of seagulls chilling on the rock across from us, so naturally I waded across and crashed their bird party.  No birds were harmed in the shooting of these photos. Also I got a terrible sunburn that day.  Some people would call that karma.

These birds have no idea what's about to happen.

Consider this bird party crashed.

See those faces? These are what you call angry birds.

Where to Go in Seattle: The Experience Music Project

Ever since G and I first started dating nearly a year ago we have been planning to go to the Experience Music Project at the base of the Space Needle.  We finally ended up going last Thursday.  It was so amazing, but my favorite part, besides the instrument tornado sculpture, was the Science Fiction exhibit.  I took a ton of pictures and then my camera battery died so I used G's camera phone, which has amazing picture quality.  I haven't gotten the pictures off his phone yet, but when I do I will definitely share them.  (There's one of me getting attacked by a Dalek!)  When we left I realized that I had checked my jacket at the counter and forgot to pick it up, so then G had to drive me back down to get it on Friday before we left to catch the ferry.  Anyway, here are my favorite pictures from my camera.

I tried to take a picture of the instrument tornado sculpture distorted in the wall.
It turned out even more distorted than it looked but I like it a lot.

Where to Go in Seattle: The Ave

Technically The Ave is a street named University Way NE, but everyone calls it "The Ave".

First of all, my nails have been all purple and zigzagged for about a week now.  They're starting to chip and they didn't start out very perfect.  But here's how they looked right after I finished them.

I used this technique.  Next time, I think I'll make it easier on myself and do this two-color variation.  The one thing I will definitely do differently next time is stick my tape pieces to the slippery side of some freezer paper before cutting them in zigzags, because the hardest part was definitely cutting the tape.  I think it would be easier stuck to something that I can peel it off of without it losing its stickiness.

Onto the real post.  Yesterday I went to the Ave to hang out with my best friend Jessica, who I hadn't seen since before Christmas.  We didn't get stabbed or shot or robbed, but we did see a drug deal go down.  All in all, it was a fun and successful adventure.  First we went to get crepes for lunch.  We wanted to try this new crepe place that just opened and got really great reviews on Yelp, but we found out that it's closed on Mondays : (  So we went to a different crepe place, which is located inside a sandwich shop and the crepes were so amazingly delicious and filling.  I got one with strawberries, banana, whipped cream, and Nutella.  It was a little bit difficult to eat with a plastic fork because of the way they serve them.  I could have normally eaten it much like an ice cream cone, but I still can't bite with my front teeth, so I had to use a fork.

Look at all the yummy fillings!

This should give you some idea of how ginormous this thing was.
After that, we went to the three thrift stores: Crossroads, Buffalo Exchange, and Goodwill.  I didn't find anything I liked at Crossroads.  I found a ridiculously cute skirt at Buffalo Exchange, which fit me perfectly, so I had to get it.  I also found a really cute dress.  The front fit me perfectly but whoever owned it previously had a big butt, so the back was permanently stretched out, so I didn't buy it.  And when I was waiting to pay for the skirt, the girl in front of me was having a problem where the machine wouldn't accept her debit card, so they were trying to exchange numbers so they could hold her clothes for her to buy a different day, but none of the people who worked there could find a pen.  So I let them borrow my pen and then when it was my turn to pay, they gave me a coupon for $5 off my next purchase for being so patient and lending my pen.  That was very cool, and the coupon never expires.  Here's a picture of the skirt.

I'm a sucker for tiers, ruffles, and fun prints.

Look how artsy this print is. I can't help but love it.

And then at Goodwill I found the best jacket in the world, in my opinion.  When I left at 3-ish it was fairly nice and relatively warm weather, but by 6-ish it was getting a bit chilly, even in my leather jacket which is normally too good at keeping me warm.  So I got another jacket at Goodwill, because I have a jacket weakness.  And I found the perfect one.  It fits me perfectly.  It's super comfy, made out of sweatshirt material, but like the really soft kind.  And it's pretty unique as well.  Not to mention in like-new condition with no stains or tears.  It did a great job of keeping me warm during the half hour I had to wait for my bus home.  And while I was waiting in the checkout line, I found some husky earrings, which I had to buy because I went to the University of Washington for two years before dropping out and G is an alumni of there.  We are both avid fans of Husky basketball and football, so these were a necessary purchase.

And I couldn't resist wearing everything at the same time. I'm not going to lie, I would consider leaving the house and going out in public dressed like this.  But I probably wouldn't.  Probably...

You wish you were this awesome. (complete with roommates' clutter in the back)

So I ended up having a fun and successful adventure, and it was great being able to see my best friend.

Birthday Shenanigans

My actual birthday was on Saturday and I turned 20, which means I'm no longer a teenager and now I can join 20 Something Bloggers! Achievement Unlocked: Grow Up.  We didn't do anything for my actual birthday because I wasn't feeling up to it.  The day started out with me dreaming about murderous clowns, and I am really terrified of clowns.  And then I had really horrible cramps.  TMI?  I don't care.  And I didn't feel like eating anything.  So G and I just laid around watching TV/Netflix all day.  Later that night I felt better and we drove around the corner from G's house to QFC so I could buy some Haagen Dazs ice cream, which is a special treat for me.  And then we went back to his house and watched the Louis CK special called "Hilarious" and it was hilarious indeed.  Then we went to bed.  But yesterday G took me to Red Robin for "linner" at 4:00 (lunch/dinner for those of you who don't know what that means).  I got a really delicious burger with sweet potato fries and attempted to Vanna White while G took a picture.  He was also nice enough not to tell the witer it was my birthday, because I hate being sung to, so I didn't have to have anyone sing Happy Birthday to me at all, which made my birthday a huge success.

I managed to eat half of my meal and I'm going to eat the rest for
lunch as soon as I finish this post and join 20 Something Bloggers
And did I mention that I got my meal for free?  Because I'm a member of Red Robin's Red Royalty, they gave me a free burger to redeem any time during my birthday month.  So I definitely love Red Robin.  Also, sweet potato fries are one of my favorite things.  After linner, we went to Gameworks, which is an arcade.  We got there at 5:00.  I hadn't been to an arcade since I was 8 years old and went to Chuck E. Cheeses for my friend's birthday party.  I managed to beat G at air hockey, which was my main goal.  I won 8-5.  Then I beat him at Pac Man.  I got to play Dance Dance Revolution for the first time ever and it was really fun.  G won, but only by a little bit.  I also played pinball for the first time ever in real life and guess what?  I'm actually awesome at it.  I only played one game but it lasted a while and I got 66,110,000 points.  The zeroes at the end were also numbers but I don't remember what they were.  Then we played the basketball hoop shooting game and I did atrociously to begin with, but I managed to get 28 points by the end.  It was especially difficult because 2 out of the 4 basketballs were pretty flat.  We also hunted dinosaurs.  I won the first round and G won the other 3, after I informed him that he only has to pump it once to reload after every shot or he'll just waste all of his ammo.  It was really fun and really scary also because we got attacked by some T-rexes, but we killed them, because we're awesome dinosaur hunters like that.  We also played a Fast and the Furious racing game and I actually won!  It was especially exciting because I always lose at racing games, and because G loves cars and driving.  I got 4th place and he got 8th.  We also played Skee Ball, which I had never played before.  It was pretty fun except the machines stopped displaying our score at the end, after this picture was taken.

So we had to shift to the machines on the far left and I didn't realize it before we swiped our card to play, but all of the balls on my machine were stuck in the orange ring.  So I had to sneakily climb up the skee ball machine to retrieve them while nobody was looking.  And then two of them got stuck while I was playing and I had to walk up and get them again.  And we played a bunch of other games too, but those ones were the most fun.  And I had a blast.  It was my best birthday so far.  I snapped these pictures on the way out.

You can't really tell in the picture but there's tons of electricity shooting through this

there's electricity shooting through this too; you can see it a little bit
And then we went back to G's house and had mixed drinks, which consisted of cranberry juice and ginger ale, and watched The Simpsons.  Oh yeah, and I bought a 1 dollar scratch ticket and it won me back my dollar.  So it ended up being the best birthday ever.  And I forgot to mention it but G started singing the Spider-Pig song from The Simpsons Movie while we were waiting for our food and I joined in.  I knew there was a reason I loved him : )
