My Mottos Plus I Got Bitten By the the Twitter Bug

I'll write this in reverse order from what the title would make you expect, because I'm just crazy and unpredictable like that.  I have two Twitter accounts now, one for business, and the other for personal use.  It was too much fun to keep my business account only for business, so I had to open up a personal account to make that possible.  And I need some followers, because on my personal account, 2/3 of my followers are my business account and a fake porn star.  So yeah.  Shameless self promotion, yay!  And if you follow me, I might even follow you back. Incentive!

On to the next thing that I want to talk about: my personal life mottos.  Two of them are sort of similar but I like them both.  Number one is rise from the ashes.  And by that I mean that I want my shortcomings to be my motivation to be awesome.  It also means that when life gives me lemons, I will use them to make lemon meringue pie and enjoy it while lounging near the pool.  That's the reason I want to get a phoenix tattoo on my back, sort of like this.

Side note: I think you can gauge how much a person watches How I Met Your Mother by the exponential increase of their use of the word awesome.  Motto 2 is a Samuel Beckett quote: Ever tried? Ever failed? Try again. Fail again. Fail better.  I like it because it's so honest.  It's not like trying again after a failure automatically means you'll succeed.  You're very likely to fail again.  And you just need to look that failure in the face and laugh.  And then you keep on trying as many times as it takes.

Motto 3 is from the poem "She" by Kobi Yamada.  There are actually four lines from this poem that I really like, but the one that I resound with most and try to emulate is "She turned her can'ts into cans and her dreams into plans."  Another line I really relate to are "She colored her thoughts with only the brightest hues."  I try my hardest to be optimistic, but sometimes I don't feel like it.  But I know that when I do view things optimistically, I always feel better about situations than when I don't.  The third line that I love is "She was an artist and her life was her canvas."  I see the potential for art almost everywhere I look and it makes life so vibrant and amazing.  The line that I really need/want to work on is "She took the leap and built her wings on the way down."  I need to be more daring and not always be afraid of the consequences, or just plain afraid.  I don't do a lot of crazy things, and I'm not saying like stupid-crazy, more unexpected and maybe zany.  I'm pretty much saying that I would like to be able to emulate Zooey Deschanel in literally every movie she's ever been in.  She's so full of life and part of that is she's not afraid to do her own thing.  Whether it's dying her hair bright colors in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Photo-jogging in Yes Man (even though it doesn't work very well) she's never afraid to try something new and even maybe be considered weird by the people around her.  That's the quality that I admire most about her and why she is tied with Chloe Moretz as my favorite actress.

So that's just some stuff that I felt like sharing today.  Sidenote: when I binged (I don't google, I bing) she turned her cant's into cans and dremas into plans, one of the suggestion was, she turned her cats into cans.  I wish that I could just whip up an illustration of that, but alas, I am not so great at drawing as doodling.  It just tickled my funny bone.

Guilty Pleasures and Hulu

I'm trying not to be absent from my blog for very long, so I'm trying to write short posts, even when I don't really have anything to say.  So today, I'm sharing with you all the shows that I receive in my Hulu queue.  Some of these are shows that I would consider guilty pleasures, because I wouldn't want to admit that I kind of love them, but I really do enjoy watching them.

So, in no particular order, the shows that grace my Hulu queue are: Pretty Little Liars (guilty pleasure), How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, Raising Hope, The Middle, America's Got Talent, The Office, Switched at Birth (guilty pleasure),  Misfits (guilty pleasure; it's British and completely ridiculous and I love it), The Nine Lives of Chloe King (guilty pleasure), The Booth at the End, Whites, Friends with Benefits, The Lying Game (guilty pleasure), New Girl, Once Upon a Time, Grimm, Suburgatory, Alphas, and Whitney.

The ones that I dearly love to pieces and would highly recommend to anyone who is willing to listen are: Raising Hope, Suburgatory, Whitney, and New Girl.

Raising Hope is going on its second season.  It's about a guy having unprotected sex with a girl who he doesn't know is a serial killer and getting her pregnant.  Then she gets the electric chair and he's left raising the baby.  It sounds weird, but give it a shot.  Suburgatory is sort of a guilty pleasure.  It's about a girl with a single dad being moved to the suburbs after her dad discovers a box of condoms in her drawer.  The show is about her battles to maintain her sanity in suburbia while trying to spread a little originality and common sense.  Needless to say, it's not going too well for her.  Whitney Cummings is my new favorite comedian, and each episode of Whitney is based on one of her jokes and they're all completely hilarious.  It may take a bit of getting used to it being taped in front of a live studio audience, but it's well worth it if you need a few laughs.  New Girl is about a girl finding a place to live on Craigslist, then finding out all her roommates are guys, and moving in anyway.  The girl is played by Zooey Deschanel, my favorite actress, and she does a great job of convincing us that she's a complete dork, even though we all know otherwise.  The guys try to mold her into a respectable and date-able lady, but they have their work cut out for them.

So if you have some free time and want to watch a good tv show while curled up with a mug of hot chocolate, I would recommend those four.  What are some of your guilty pleasure shows?

So Casey and I are just friends, mystery solved.  Which is probably for the best, because I'm honestly kind of boy crazy.  And one of the cashiers in the convenience store downstairs has been flirting with me, so obviously that I can even tell.  So yeah, that's it.  Except, wait! I went to church today and I walked all the way there and back and went to Safeway and got some strawberries and marionberry muffins and awful Safeway Chinese food, which I've been craving. And now I'm going bookstore browsing, which I absolutely adore doing.  I love books, and great deals on books are even better.  And one of the bookstores is having a 70% off sale today.  5 books for $5. I am a happy camper.  Also, I got strawberries, Cadbury Creme Eggs, marionberry muffins, a new ring, and some Safeway Chinese food. It's a good day.  Watched Monsters Inc. and now I'm watching Yes Man.  Have I mentioned how much I love Zooey Deschanel? Because it's a lot.

Actresses

Up until a few years ago, you could have asked me who my favorite actress was and I wouldn't have a clue. I hadn't even heard of very many actresses. I described movies by what they were about and not who was in them. I still do that. People will ask me, "Oh, is so-and-so in this movie?" and I'll reply that I have no idea. Anyway, I now know who my favorite actresses are: Zooey Deschanel and Ellen Page. I also just found out about this girl named Chloe Moretz who seems pretty interesting. I was watching "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" today for absolutely no reason. It's an alright movie, I guess, good for wasting time. I'd give it 2 stars out of 5, certainly not fantastic or one I'd watch again. Anyway, Chloe Moretz was an actress in the movie. I'm not really sure yet whether I like her as an actress or I just liked her character, so I'll have to watch some more of her movies soon and figure it out. The one that I'm really looking forward to is called "Let Me In" and it's about a 250-year old vampire in a 13 year old girl's body. Chloe Moretz plays the little girl. The best part of the movie is that it's nothing like Twilight, which is good because I hate Twilight. I've never actually seen it and sometime I will actually torture myself by watching it so I can provide some sort of list of reasons that it's stupid and ridiculous. Maybe this week, so you can look forward to that. I haven't read the books either, but I have watched all of the "Alex Reads Twilight" videos on Youtube, so I have heard all of Twilight. It's poorly written and Bella is angsty and ridiculous.  Anyway, back to the topic of actresses, I guess that I like actresses who remind me of myself somehow. In "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" Chloe Moretz' character (I don't remember her name) is in middle school and she's one of the only kids not trying to be popular. She is comfortable being herself and at one point she says that girls she's known since Kindergarten won't even talk to her anymore. That was me in middle school, only I was shorter. I knew who I was and I wasn't going to pretend to be someone else just so people I didn't even like would like me. I feel like Ellen Page is sort of a younger version of Zooey Deschanel. I like them because they always play characters that are unique and quirky. I'm sort of quirky myself, even if I don't own a hamburger phone. I also really love the way they talk. It is the sort of witty banter that I expect from Gilmore Girls, a show which I love. I don't talk cool like that, but I like it when other people do. Well, I think that's all I wanted to say. I sort of just typed stuff as it came into my head, and sorry for the rant but I really do hate Twilight. Look for that anti-Twilight post sometime this week, probably. It promises to be scintillating. Au revoir mis amis (That's a really good movie by the way. It's in French but there's an English version. It's kind of sad because it's about the Holocaust)
