Friday Fashion: Vintage Vibes

I'm currently wearing pajamas and wishing for this outfit I made on Polyvore.  The top and the cardigan are my favorite pieces, besides the hat.  I am seriously in love with cloche hats.  They just add that perfect vintage touch to any outfit.  I only own one right now but that will probably change before too long.  I just made a Pinterest board of hats and it's mostly cloches.  I'm smitten.

Fair Trade Fashion

All of the items in the above outfit are fair trade, excluding the sunflower, bird, rain, and paintbrush graphics.  These items (except the rug) are all fairly affordable and I would love to have each one.  You may think that fair trade is expensive, and that's true, but it's also false.  Similar items from different countries can have very different prices because of how fair trade works.  One of the principles of fair trade is that the artisans who make the products earn a living wage.  The living wage varies from country to country so the price also varies depending on the country the product is from.  Some products in the fair trade store I work at seem quite expensive, but for the amount of work that goes into them, it's a reasonable price.  However other products (especially the scarves) seem really inexpensive for the amount of work that goes into them.  There are handwoven hand-dyed scarves that cost as low as $12 each!  That is because the living wage in those countries is so much lower that the artists still make a living wage with those low prices.

In this outfit the clutch, necklace, bracelet, and shoes are all fair trade.  Could you have figured that out if I hadn't told you?  Fair trade products can be really fashionable and really affordable.  In fact I have found that many fair trade products from around the world are lower priced than similar products handmade in the United States.

Friday Fashion: What to Wear with Honeybee Alley Jewelry

Friday Fashion: Fossil Hunting

First of all, I want to say thank you for all all your kind and supportive comments and emails on my last post.  I was feeling pretty overwhelmed and hormones definitely made it worse, but it helped me a lot to know that I have so much support from other people who are in the same boat.

Secondly, I have a job interview on Monday!  It's at a fair trade place that wasn't hiring when I left my resume with them at the beginning of the year but they moved locations and found my resume and really want to meet me.

Thirdly, I want to talk about fossil hunting.  When I was in elementary school my brother and I would always bring in fossils for show and tell.  Not animal fossils (I wish!) but plant fossils, which are still super cool.  There's this cliff up the hill from my grandparents' house that has rocks erode off of it and lots of the rocks have fossils in them.  We like to call it The Fossil Rock and we keep its location top secret.  The outfit above would be so perfect for fossil hunting, although probably with boots instead of the sandals but I love those sandals.  I really want that shirt and the bag is amazing!  I would wear it with this lava and pyrite necklace.

When I went home a couple of months ago to visit my brother I stopped by The Fossil Rock with my mom to do some fossil hunting.  We didn't find any plant fossils but we did find some petrified wood and a lot of rocks with crystal bands.

Fossil hunting and rock hunting in general is a fun and usually free pastime that I have enjoyed since I was little.  I am excited to incorporate some of my finds into my handmade jewelry.  It's always cool when two passions come together.  Do you like rock hunting?  I would love to see photos of your rock collection!

Friday Fashion: Wild Spirit

Lately I've been feeling extra bohemian/hippie/gypsy and it's been reflected in my newest Honeybee Alley jewelry in a big way.  There are a lot of stones, crystals, and antiqued finishes.  Now you can see jewelry before it's listed in my Etsy shop by following me on Instagram.  If you see anything you want to buy you can get it at a discounted price through Paypal (because I won't be taking extra time to photograph/edit photos/list/pay listing fees/write a description, etc.) or I'll gladly list it on Etsy for you to purchase.  Most of my new jewelry would go great with this outfit, and I can see myself wearing this outfit and going on an adventure in the woods or in a meadow.

I'm usually not a fan of gold tones; I definitely prefer silver tones, but in this outfit I love them to death.  I already have a peplum top sort of like this one but the exposed zipper on the one in the collage makes me really want it!  If I could have any item here I would pick the skirt...or the shoes.

Friday Fashion: If My Blog was an Outfit

I saw this post idea on two blogs I follow (Lariats and Lavender and My Life as a Teacup), and I loved it.  The link-up for it is over but I still wanted to make the outfit version of my blog, and I love how it turned out.

If my blog was an outfit, it would be cute, edgy, a little weird, and pretty casual.  This prompt has also made me think of some new blog design ideas.  I also really like the idea of an outfit as a moodboard, even though that wasn't the intent.

Saturday Style: Seattle Artist

Friday Fashion is now Saturday Style, since it seems to happen on Saturdays now.  This outfit is really special because it features a tote bag with my original art on it!  You guys can order them here or see my other tote bags here.  My mom already ordered one : )  My art is also available on pillows and I want one, but I don't have money to buy one yet.

If I had my dream closet, this is what I would wear with a Seattle Starry Night tote bag this fall.  I am all about layering, and shorts with tights are one of my go-to looks for fall.  Throw on a cozy sweater with a printed scarf and a slouchy beanie and you're ready to go.

Wishing for: Ankle Boots

I really want some great ankle boots, in either black or brown.  I would be pretty happy if any of these ones found their way into my wardrobe.  But since I refuse to buy shoes online (I know if I get the wrong size I can send them back, but that's a huge hassle), I have to wait until I find the perfect ankle boots in my size at one of the local thrift stores, so I might not get any for awhile.  My feet are pretty big, so I can't find shoes that fit very often, and even less often shoes that fit, which I like, and are in my price range.  But a girl can dream, and wish.  So I will be content with that for now.

Friday Fashion: Let's Pretend It's Still Friday

I bought this lace dress from Wet Seal and I am loving it  (It's sold out now.).  It has short sleeves so it will work in any weather, and right now it's fall, which means layers!  I've been wearing it with my brown "leather" jacket and brown motorcycle boots, which are different than the ones in this collage.  I actually bought the jacket brand new from Wish and so far it's lasted me through a full year no problem, completely worth the $50 I spent for it.  I thrifted the boots from Goodwill for $15 (and later discovered they would have cost me $300 new!) and they are my go-to boots.  I want to get a satchel but I haven't yet, so I carry either my big camo skulls bag or my brown crossbody bag and wear jewelry that I made myself, such as my bee key necklace, which I originally made with the intention to sell it in my shop, but I decided to keep it for myself.  That's one of the perks of making jewelry.

Lately I've been slightly obsessed with lace dresses (like for the past year!), so I finally bought this one.  And yesterday I thrifted another one from Buffalo Exchange.  That one is a black body-con style dress that makes me feel like I look amazing (for just $15, not bad!).  And while I probably won't have any reason to wear it for a long time, I'll definitely wear it dressed down with an oversized cardigan in the meantime.

Seattle Etsy Love

Friday Fashion: My Summer Fashion Wishlist

I have a long wishlist, but these are a few of the items that I wouldn't mind showing up in my closet.  I want a flower crown so badly!  It would be great to wear with a colorful lace dress.  I like them paired with bright flats in contrasting colors.  I like these flats because they're my favorite color and my current brightly colored flats are super close to dead (but I still wear them anyway).  I'm always a fan of cute floral printed blouses, and this is one of my favorites.  Foxes are one of my current obsessions and I don't have any fox stuff at all!  This ring would be a great to remedy this problem.  Hats have always been an obsession of mine and this hat would be perfect for exploring and going on adventures!  I also really want a satchel.  This one has lots of color and personality, and it's big enough to hold the essentials, including my wallet, book, and camera.  I love the bright summery colors on this striped top and I love horizontal stripes, well any stripes actually.  Horizontal, vertical, diagonal; I'm not picky.  And this skirt!  I would wear it with so many things!  It's twirly and asymmetrical and amazing and I adore it.

So if I had everything I wanted in my wardrobe, it would definitely contain all of these things, plus a lot more.

Friday Fashion: How I Would Wear Stripes with Florals

What I love about mixing floral prints with stripes is that it's pretty foolproof.  Pretty much any combination of stripes and florals will look good together (as long as the stripes are black-and-white).  I saw these two images awhile ago and completely fell in love with the look of stripes and floral prints together.

So then I created my own outfits with stripes and floral print.  I made them in Polyvore, of course, since I still haven't bought a black and white striped shirt or black and white striped jeans.

I feel like if you're going to go this bold with your prints, you should stick to neutral colored shoes and accessories, in similar shades.  I think this would be a super cute outfit for date night or even for work, depending on where you work.  And each piece in this outfit is under $50! (Okay, the dress is $51, but it's close.)  You can recreate this look even more affordably if you already own some similar pieces or if you shop at thrift stores.

This is a more subtle way of mixing your stripes and florals (as subtle as you can be with black and white striped jeans, anyway!)  You could make it even more subtle with light grey and white striped jeans.

I couldn't really decide on one floral top, so I made an outfit for three different tops.  I would definitely wear all three of these outfits.  I think the brown bags and shoes that match the top add a fun touch while still keeping it more subtle.  I would add a blazer, cardigan, or jacket with each, because I live in Seattle, but I ran out of space, so you can use your imagination.

I think that mixing florals with stripes is a really cute and fun idea for spring.

Fashion Friday: In My Perfect Wardrobe

I would love a purple studded "leather" jacket, and these boots (along with the ability to walk in them and not get them dirty, because white shoes are so hard to keep clean and pristine).  Lately I've been wearing more bright colors because it's Spring (and I went on a thrift store shopping spree yesterday at a thrift store that I'll share with you next week and thrifted some very cute springy clothing), but sometimes I'm just drawn to neutrals.  I really love neutrals that aren't so neutral, because of studs or sparkle or cute details.

Friday Fashion: Striped Jeans

Can we talk about jeans for a minute?  Of course we can, because this is my blog and I can talk about whatever I want.  And right now I want to talk about jeans.  I love jeans.  I especially love weird, crazy, zany, fun jeans.  I don't even own a pair of ordinary blue jeans.  I don't own a single pair of blue jeans, not even one.  I do own: a pair of black jeans with distressing and red sequins, a pair of army green jeans with lots of pockets, a pair of khaki jeans, a pair of pinkish-purple jeans, a pair of dark red jeans, and a pair of dark gray jeans with a bleaching pattern that's sort of like tie dye.  The point I'm trying to make here is that I am a big fan of jeans.  They are a serious wardrobe staple for me.  And I want more, specifically a pair of camo jeans and a pair of black and white striped jeans, like in this outfit.

Why black and white striped jeans are so cool:

1.  I would feel like a character out of a Tim Burton movie every time I wore them, and I love Tim Burton movies.

2.  They're surprisingly versatile.  I would be able to wear them with just about everything, including plain tops and printed tops.  This would allow me to do some fun pattern mixing including polka dots and stripes, floral and stripes, and subtle zebra print and stripes.

3. It's all the fun and excitement of a circus without scary murderous clowns.

4.  I could wear them under skirts and dresses like striped leggings.  This would be especially helpful next winter when it's cold again.  (It's sunny in Seattle right now and has been this week.  Look quick before it's rainy again.)

So basically black and white striped jeans need to find their way into my wardrobe posthaste.

Friday Fashion: Girly Punk Spring Style

This is what I wish I was wearing today, but I don't own any of it, except the necklace obviously, since I made it and it's for sale in my shop.  It's actually my favorite necklace.  I really really love the shoes and the shirt and the bag.

But Spring is here and I have been wearing much more colorful clothing lately.  The sun is shining and I feel like I have a lot more energy.  Goodbye Seasonal Affective Disorder; Hello Spring!

Friday Fashion: Rocker Style

Tomorrow G and I are going to go to Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle.  I've never been there before but I've wanted to go for awhile.  One of the best parts is that it's completely free!  The weather is supposed to be nice and sunny tomorrow, so it will be great for walking around and taking lots of awesome pictures.  In a perfect world, I would be wearing this outfit, but I only own the jacket portion.  I especially love the black and white bag.  I really really want some camo skinny jeans.  I have camo shorts but that's not the same.  They're at the top of my wishlist, along with a lace dress.

Also make sure you remember to set your clocks forward on Sunday for Daylight Savings time so you aren't late for stuff.

Friday Fashion: Peplum Top

When I first saw that peplum tops were in, I thought they looked cute on some people but I could never pull one off.  Then I saw Candace Bailey wearing one on Attack of the Show.  She's one of my girl crushes and I wish that show was still on because it was one of my favorite shows.  Anyway she has a very similar body type to me and she looked really cute in a peplum top and green jeans (Let's be honest though; She looks cute in anything she wears.  And yes I am jealous).  So I realized that I might look good in one too.  I haven't tried it yet because of my illness and weight loss, I'm not buying any clothes until I'm back to my previous weight, so they'll actually fit.  Plus I still haven't been able to go back to work yet and no income means no spending money on non-necessities.  Anyway, if I had infinite money, I would buy a peplum top and style it like this.  It's more of a casual outfit.  And I love leather jackets (well faux leather).  I have a brown one and a black one.  That's the only part of this outfit I actually own, but a girl can dream.

Date Night

G and I don't really have date nights. We have hangout nights and date weekends.  But if we did have a date night, I would want to wear an outfit like this.  Not that I have anything like this, except for black jeans, which are actually too big around but I'm wearing them with a belt right now anyway.  It's laundry day.  I really do want a top like this though.  I love it.  And earrings like those, even though stud earrings tend to irritate my ears.  That's why I haven't worn my adorable bunny earrings in a while.  Or my husky earrings.  I'm rambling.  Um, yay weekend!
